MUD CLUB

We know kids LOVE getting creative and clay is the perfect way for them to express themselves. We are most definitely here for supporting their beautiful mess-making and creative play. Read down to find out about our weekend Family Mud Club and school holiday playshops.

Welcome to MUD CLUB

A place for kids and parents to get creative together - commitment-free, one-off playshops to get inspired, connected and mindful.

During our FAMILY MUD CLUB, we’ll demonstrate pinch pots and tiles, and there’s always room for a bit of freestyling too. Kids are so incredibly imaginative - the kids have produced sculptures of treasured pets, rather a lot of mermaids, the occasional tombstone, and even a hot-dog!

Round up the small ones and come get cosy and crafty in our colourful studio - and because we know parents love getting stuck in as much as the young folk, you can play along too!

Mud Club

Saturdays / 10am - 12noon

Our signature small people space! Over the course of 2 hours you’ll have tutored time to help your little ones and maybe you as well. Older kids with a little more dexterity can have a go at slab mugs or have a look around the studio for some inspiration - our tutors will help each child individually and support them on a make that will feel achievable and fun! Each session is tailored to the children in it, and we’ll focus on giving the young creatives time to explore their own instincts and inspirations.

INCLUDED: all materials, tuition, juices & tea/coffee, firing of a couple of small pieces each. If you can’t come back to paint, we can give the pieces a quick dip in transparent glaze for you - just let us know via studio@wedgestudio.co.uk.

FAQs

FAQs

Q: DO PARENTS TAKE PART IN THE MAKING TOO?

Yes. These sessions are designed to be enjoyed as a family, with both child and adult getting stuck in/ We have a discounted rate for the parents and this covers firing and painting for them too.

Q: WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO CHILL OUT OR CATCH UP ON EMAILS?

That’s ok. We have a comfy sofa and you are welcome to help yourself to tea/coffee and take a seat if you don’t want to participate yourself.

Q: WHY CAN’T WE MAKE & PAINT OUR PIECES ON THE SAME DAY?

It takes about a week for pieces to be ready to fire, and then two days to get through our kilns (it takes a while for them to cool down). In theory you could paint your work a few days after making it and before it’s fired (this is called greenware) - but it’s much more likely to break at this stage, so we try not to do this. Once fired, your pieces are really solid and sturdy and much safer for small handles to handle easily.

Q: HOW LONG DO I LEAVE BEFORE BOOKING THE PAINTING SESSION?

The studio team will let you know when your pieces are in the kiln, and at that stage you can make your booking to paint. We have painting sessions scheduled about two weeks after making workshops, which is the ideal timeframe.

Q: MY CHILD HAS ADDITIONAL NEEDS. CAN WE ATTEND?

Of course. Do let us know in advance if you feel there is any information about your child’s needs that will help us give them the best experience. We have run numerous workshops for neurodivergent kids and young adults and have some experience of these settings, but should stress that this is personal rather than certified experience, and you will remain responsible for your own child throughout the session.

If you or your child have any physical accessibility requirements please let us know in advance as we can set the space up flexibly and will need to discuss bathroom access.
