WHAT IS IT?
This introductory course is perfect for kids that are absolute beginners and those looking for a fun and creative way to refresh their skills while also having the chance to make new friends in a supportive environment. Each week introduces a new skill, allowing kids to build confidence, explore their artistic side, and have tons of fun—all while creating real ceramic pieces to take home!
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
12 hours of tuition
All materials including clays, glazes and community tools
All kiln firing
Final glazing, ensuring your piece is food safe
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Week 1 – Pinch Pot Bowl
We begin with the basics! Kids will learn how to create a bowl using the pinch pot technique. This fun and simple method teaches foundational clay skills, shaping with fingers and thumbs to make a unique, functional bowl.
Week 2 – Coiling a Vase
Time to roll with it! Children will explore the coiling technique—rolling and stacking long ropes of clay to build height and form. Each student will begin creating their very own vase.
Week 3 – Refining the Vase
This week is all about perfecting. Kids will smooth, shape, and detail their coiled vases, learning how to refine their pieces before drying and firing. Decorative techniques will also be introduced.
Week 4 – Working with Slabs
We’ll switch it up with slab-building! Kids will roll out flat pieces of clay and use them to construct something fun—perhaps a tile, box, or wall-hanging. A great chance to experiment with texture and design tools!
Week 5 – Glazing & Decorating
The magic of color begins! Students will learn about glazing techniques and begin decorating their bisque-fired pieces using colorful, food-safe glazes.
Week 6 – Final Touches & Pottery Showcase
In our final session, students will finish glazing and prepare their work for its final firing. We’ll wrap up with a mini art show for parents and friends to admire the amazing work the kids have created!
